Practicum

Week #1

Now, for the first week of school, it was pretty slow. Since U-View was just starting back up, I didn’t have much to post on social media. Instead, I created a graphic for our first meeting with first-year students or anyone interested in U-View. This graphic will then be held up across the school to promote it, and was completed with the advice of our advisor and producers/board members' opinions!

Week #2

For the second week of school, it was pretty similar. This week, all I did was table for the Organization fair to recruit individuals that may be interEsted in U-View! Once we had our interest meeting on Thursday, which I recorded and uploaded to the U-View social media pages. I also created a graphic to upload to social media to release the schedule for the shows and when they will be produced!

Week #3

The third week of school was when U-View started picking up speed. During this week, I wanted to upload the Board and Producers to our social media, so I had to do multiple things. Create a form for responses, create the graphic, and upload to U-View’s social media pages. Also, since it was Introduction week for the shows, I had to attend all but one of the shows to upload content promoting their productions to draw in engagement.

Week #4

For this week, I was tasked with a lot more to do. On top of promoting each individual show that WAS recorded this week, I helped the students in robin Cecala’s Video Storytelling class after she asked me to! For this week’s shows, I ran audio for Pioneer Sideline and Late-Night S’news and trained someone during Sideline. I also went on-camera as an Anchor for News Night and for Entertainment on Point. I had to research, write, edit, and surface the web for information on each of my 5 stories.

Week #5

This week was a nightmare. I started this week with Entertainment on Point, and right after we were done recording, I went to retrieve the footage, and the drive corrupted, so there was no video from EOP for this week. The next day, I ran audio for News Night and trained someone on audio for Pioneer Sideline. Thursday, I ran audio for Daybreak and ended the week with that. For the social media aspect, I created graphics for each show that was occurRing to promote them equally.

Week #6

This was just another typical week. For Entertainment on Point, I helped in the creation of the Rundown since I was finally given access, yay! I also set up the studio, podded up the lights, set up the control and audio room, taught our audio director how to run the audio room, wrote two stories and searched the web for a graphic. I did not have to edit this week, so that was very nice! On Thursday, I ran the teleprompter for Daybreak and also helped set up the studio for recording. For News Night, I created a two-and-a-half-MINUTE package on Point Park’s faculty fighting for contract negotIations and how it was occurRing during family weekend. For social media, I uploaded three individual posts to the Instagram story to promote each show and captured photos.

This week Was also very chaotic with technology, but this time it was all figured out!! Originally, Entertainment on Point was supposed to happen on tuesday, same with late-night s’news, but the studio was down, and both shows had to be cancelled. fortunately, entertainment on point was able to shoot on thursday instead and still produced a show! This week, I was in charge of post-production, so on top of writing and drafting stories, i also edited and submitted the video you see for eop. I also reported for daybreak for the first time, which involved writing one 1-minute-long story, mine being on JD Vance getting kicked out of Primanti Bros. I sat in on News Night as well but did not have an official role and bounCed back and forth in the studio. I did create a package for this show, however, so I was still on camera.

Week #7

This week was very smooth when it came to technology, so that was a plus. For work this week, I uploaded the usual promotional posts to our Instagram and facebook stories, promoting each show on the day they were in studio. I also hosted EOP and edited it in post-production, on top of preparing the show and setting it up, besides printing rundowns. I also created a package for News Night that focused on Oktoberfest and its festivities in Downtown Pittsburgh. I also reported on Dolly Parton donating 1 million dollars to relief efforts caused by Hurricane Helene. On Thursday, I hosted Daybreak once again and wrote a story about Spirit Halloween’s new branch store, Spirit Christmas.

Week #8

This was normal, just very stressful with the election show coming up. For entertainment on Point, it was our Halloween show!! I was in charge of the rundown and pre-production, while Cade took on the post-production responsibilities. We all dressed up as our favorite characters and reported on the best entertainment news! For News Night, I created a package on the Pittsburgh Playhouse’s Fall Fest and show, “Boo’s Halloween House Party.” I also ran teleprompter for the production of news night. On thursday, I felt inclined to go to Late Night S’news because I feel I never go anymore. When I went, I taught not one but two people how to run audio and it went very well! For social media creation, I uploaded multiple times throughout the week and promoted each show’s production.

Week #9

This week was very slow because of the election show coming up. also, there was Pioneer Pause, so our Tuesday shows, Entertainment on POint and Late Night S’news were cancelled. So this week, I anchored the first live show of News night and reported on multiple topics ranging from the election to a murder case that was just solved. I also ran kipro for Daybreak’s production! For social media, I created graphics to promote each show on the U-View social media pages.

Week #10

This was the week every at U-View has been planning and waiting for. The 2024 election show and all the other coverage surrounding it was finally here. On Tuesday, Entertainment on Point and Late Night S’news did not have episodes because of the election show. This show lasted five hours consecutively and ALLOWED ME to be on camera for over two straight hours. The night before the show, on monday, I went to the Kamala Harris rally in Pittsburgh after obtaining an official press pass through U-View. I was there from 8. am to MIDNIGHT, but all of it was worth it. The experIence and netWORKINg that I HAd will stay with me forever. Then the night after the election show, the coverage was still not over. We did not have THE results of who won the election by the time the live show ended, so my co-anchor from that night and I anchored the News Night coverage of the election to finally announce the winner. It was such a memorable experience that gave me so much to remember and learn. I am forever grateful.

Week #11

This week was a slow week for me. I was very tired and needed a break after all of the election coverage. This week, I only participated with my show; Entertainment on Point. I set up pre-production by fixing the studio for the setup we go with and hosting. My stories this week were about a star on snl posting their experience working with Elon Musk and the r-rated mistake made on the wicked dolls’ packaging that was made by mattel.

Week #12

This week was the final week of episodes for every U-View show for the Fall 2024 semester. This week, I was not on camera due to a medical issue and decided to technical direct instead. Also, for the show, I edited the epISode, fixed the rundown a little, and worked on some graphics. For my social media position, I did the usual post for each show. Overall, it was a very normal ending week.
